Baby Food

As you may already know I am the mother of 5!! I have 2 daughters, 2 “bonus”-sons (I don’t care for the term “step” sons/kids…they are just like my own!)…and I have a new little prince, who is (as of today) 3 ½ months old. At his last visit to the doctor, which was just a few days ago, he weighed in at 16lbs. 7.6oz. – yes, he’s my chunk little eater!! Weighing in at 8lbs. 10oz., and 21 inches long at birth…he was bound to be plump lol!! I’ve always been a strong believer in chunky babies lol. (Chunky, not to be mistaken with obese and un-healthy!)
Which brings me to the topic at hand, “Baby Food”. With my girls, I started adding cereal to their night-time bottles at around 3 weeks old. And once they were about 5-6 weeks old I started spoon feeding them cereal as their breakfast (oatmeal, or rice cereal). At the age of 2 months, I introduced them to baby food…one vegetable at a time, and then gradually including the fruits. So naturally, I began the same feeding regimen for my son.
Part of my reasoning for starting “early”, is that I was unable to breast feed children. Either they wouldn’t latch on, would latch and not take any milk, or simply did not get enough. The main reason I began cereal and baby food when I did was due to the influence of my mother. She was there to help me with my oldest, and advised me on what I should and should not do. I did for my babies what she did for my sister and me.
“The American Academy of Pediatrics (aap.org) recommends that babies be breastfed exclusively for at least six months – “…www.babycenter.com. Suggesting that they not be introduced to baby food until they around 4-6months old.
What are your thoughts? When did or would you consider starting your little munchkin on baby food?
