As summer vacation comes to a close, the children return to school, and the parents rejoice (lol…I know I am!!), I thought I'd share with you what I did with my children. Being the mother of 5 during the summer is a task in itself. But the bigger task was trying to find a way to keep them ALL (including the infant) entertained.
I started my planning early, about 2 weeks prior to school letting out. Doing so allowed me time to get it all figured out. I wanted to come up with something that was easy for me to put into motion. I decided to give the children a “break” the first week, no plans, just rest & relaxation. After that I put our “Summer Agenda” into motion.
Here's what we did:
Sunday: Church/Family Day Monday: Library Tuesday: Movie Day Wednesday: Arts & Crafts Thursday: Chore Day/Shopping Friday: Outdoor Fun/Park Saturday: Summer Sport/Activity
They were all required to read for at least 20 minutes a day, a little longer on library day. On our movie day we would watch a family movie that I selected from the library, or even from Netflix…something that they had never seen before. Their favorite day was “Arts & Crafts” day (Wednesday)…{I'll be posting some of the crafts that we enjoyed!}...it allowed them to be creative and show their artistic side, all while having fun.
Towards the end, the last 2-3 weeks, I decided to incorporate additional educational aspect…more reading, spelling words, and math. I wanted to make sure that their brains were sharp for their return to school.
The "Summer Agenda" was a BIG HIT!! It was fun & easy! So...what did you do for your summer vacation???
