Moms & Dads…have you ever heard your kids utter the words “ I'm bored, I have nothing to do”? Ever been stuck at home on a rainy day, and need to keep the kids occupied?
Well, as I was planning “at home” activities for my kids for the Summer, searching the internet for ideas, I came across the “I'm Bored” jar. There were multiple variations, but they all had the same purpose in common - keeping children active & occupied.
So I decided to put my own spin on it, and I created 2 different jars; the activity jar, and the idea jar. Both with the same goal in mind; bringing something new and exciting to the minds of my children in order to cure their boredom, lol.
I made sure to keep it bright, exciting and inexpensive! I was able to find all of the supplies at my local dollar store! For both jars, including the containers, and 2 pads of construction paper, I only spent about $15!
Key note: keep it simple!
Activity Jar

Contents: sparkle pipe cleaners, colorful foam pads, colorful cotton balls, letter & number cut outs, colored wooden craft sticks, sparkle glue pens, tape, and glue sticks.
My kids LOVE to draw & they love to create. So my thought was to have something available for them to use to express their “artistic” side.
I placed everything in the container, and added a creative label! “Create, Build, Draw, Write”
Idea Jar

Contents: interesting ideas of “things to do” written on wooden craft sticks.
I didn't want to overload the jar with too many ideas, so I “kept it simple”, and only did 50. I included different things like chores, expressive activities, reading, and things just to keep them busy.
Here are a few of the ideas:
~ Clean the walls ~ Read for 20 minutes ~ Make a fort ~ Mom's choice ~ Write a poem
When I finished all of the sticks I added a snazzy little label and that was that!
“If you get bored and don't have a clude, grab a stick from the jar and find something to do!"
Now when my kids come to me and say they have nothing to do, I tell them to grab a jar!
Try this out for your kids! Put your own spin on it or make it just like mine, and let me know how it goes!
